Dorothy H. Kinney, 91, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2018. She was born and raised in Roanoke Rapids, NC, one of seven children in the Harris family. After graduation from Roanoke Rapids High School she moved to Washington, DC where she worked. It is in DC that she met her husband of 58 years, Harry Kinney who preceded her in death. It was husband's military career that allowed her to travel and live in countries all over the world. After several years out of the country, they moved back to the states to raise their children.

Dorothy was a very warm and gracious lady with an inner strength that enabled her to handle the multitude of surprises that life brought her way. She was a talented woman, mother and wife who left her mark on the world. Dorothy was a wonderful cook, an excellent seamstress, decorator, who loved gardening and showed her talents at every place she lived.

After her husband's retirement, they moved to Florida, returning to Virginia each summer to visit with their children, grandchildren and friends. She will be sorely missed by family and friends alike.

She is survived by her son, daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren, a sister and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
